Senior Care
The Senior Care program serves senior citizens (60 years and older) living in Woodlawn and Garfield Ridge, the areas serviced by the Parkway and LeClaire Hearst Community Centers.
To promote the independence and self-sufficiency of seniors, this comprehensive project provides: Transportation; Socialization Activities; Opportunities for volunteering; In-Home Services; Advocacy and Referrals.
Senior Care is funded by a City of Chicago Department of Housing Community Development Block Grant.
Transportation and Socialization Activities
Seniors have opportunities for socialization through visiting neighborhood centers, park districts, and local Chicago Department on Aging (CDOA) Regional Centers. Special events are planned including trips for shopping, cultural activities and senior conferences.
Volunteerism and In-Home Services
Senior Care volunteers mentor students in pre-school and after school programs. In addition, our senior volunteers assist homebound seniors with small chores and provide socialization opportunities.
Advocacy and Referrals
Seniors who visit Parkway and LeClaire Hearst Community Centers receive advocacy and referral services. Issues addressed include senior housing, and referrals for services provided through CDOA programs, state-funded programs, Social Security and Medicare.
