Housing Resource Center

The Housing Resource Center (HRC) has been a part of Jane Addams Hull House Association for more than 20 years.  HRC is a community-based, non profit property management program. Our mission has 2 focuses – housing and social services.   We provide low-income seniors and families with resources to live in well-managed homes.  We also provide social services to strengthen and improve the quality of life of our residents, their families, and their communities.

We oversee 857 units of senior housing and more than 600 units of scattered site family housing on the Northside of Chicago.

Senior Housing

HRC manages 4 Senior Housing Centers.  In addition to property management, we also provide social services to our tenants. Some examples of activities include: Computer classes; Flower arrangement program; Painting classes; English classes; Exercise classes; Ballroom dancing; Knitting and crocheting classes; Managing the Schneider coffee shop in our Schneider Apartment center – it’s run by our residents!

Scattered Sites

Scattered Site homes are low rise buildings located throughout Chicago’s North side.  The homes can be single-family homes, townhouses, 3 or 6 flat houses, new construction or rehabbed buildings.  Our units range in size from garden apartments to 4-bedroom apartments, with the majority of the units having 2 or 3 bedrooms.  Our sites do not have elevators, and are not located in high rise buildings.

Sometimes a few of our scattered site homes are located next to each other on the same block, but many of our homes stand alone and look much like the privately-owned buildings that surround them.  All of our scattered sites are owned by the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA), but are managed by private property management companies.

A wide range of services are made available to our residents: Partnerships with community-based agencies, Service Connector (another Hull House program), and local government offices; Residents receive winterization kits, flowers to plant in the Spring, and attend holiday activities throughout the year; Educational programs that benefit residents and support the CHA Plan for Transformation; Maintenance staff are on call for after-hour emergencies.
