Home Repairs for Accessible and Independent Living (HRAIL)

Please note that all 2007 HRAIL clients have been chosen. Calls will be taken for the 2008 HRAIL waiting list.

The Home Repairs for Accessible and Independent Living (HRAIL) program provides free enabling devices and limited home improvements for low income senior citizens (60 years of age and older) living within the Chicago South Side Parkway and LeClaire-Hearst communities.

Home repairs and improvements focus on improved accessibility (such as grab rails, widened doorways, and lowered counters), energy-saving weatherization improvements and repairs to correct safety hazards.  When a renter is approved for assistance, the landlord certifies that the tenant’s rent will not increase as a direct result of HRAIL improvements.

HRAIL is funded by a City of Chicago Department of Housing Community Development Block Grant.
