Domestic Violence

Jane Addams Hull House Association has a 28-year history of providing domestic violence services to the community.  By providing quality services, Hull House is a safe haven that is responsive to victims’ needs as they become self-sufficient and have lives free of violence and abuse.

All of our domestic violence services are offered at no charge and are completely confidential to ensure client safety.  All services are available to those in heterosexual, homosexual and bisexual relationships.

Programs:

The Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Program (DVCAP) - Helps victims of domestic violence navigate the court system.

Domestic Violence Counseling and Advocacy Programs - Our programs provide individual and group counseling, and advocacy services to survivors of domestic violence.

Youth Project - Our programs provide teen dating violence prevention workshops at schools and community settings.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE STATISTICS

  • 1 woman is victimized by an intimate partner every 1.3 minutes. 1 man is victimized every 6.7 minutes.
  • Domestic violence comprises 9 % of all violent crime in the US.
    33 % of female murder victims are killed by husbands or boyfriends.
  • 1 in 5 high school girls report being abused by a boyfriend.
  • Male children who witness domestic violence are 2 times as likely to abuse their own partners as adults.
  • Domestic violence results in more than 18.5 million visits to health care professionals every year and $4.1 billion in medical and mental health expenses.
