FAQs

Q: I have been approached by a solicitor on the street. Is it true that Hull House is closing?

A: No! Individuals have recently been fraudulently soliciting donations on behalf of Hull House on the streets and parks around Chicago. These individuals are in no way associated with our organization.

Hull House DOES NOT solicit on the street. All solicitations occur through our development department in the ways of fundraising events, mailing campaigns and website donations. Read more here.

Q: Is Jane Addams Hull House Association the same thing as the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum?

A: No, the Association and the Museum are different entities. The Association continues Jane Addams’ legacy through our social service programs, which serve 60,000 Chicagoans annually. You can contact us at (312) 906-8600.

The Museum is operated by the University of Illinois at Chicago, and is the keeper of artifacts and historical documents of Jane Addams. The Museum is located in a one of the original buildings of the Hull House settlement house on the University of Illinois at Chicago's campus. You can contact the museum at www.hullhousemuseum.org or 312-413-5353.

Q: Who do you serve?

A: Jane Addams Hull House Association impacts 60,000 people from economically, culturally and geographically diverse backgrounds each year. We offer more than 50 programs at over 40 sites throughout the metropolitan Chicago area. Through our many programs, we serve all age ranges – from infants to seniors.

Q: How can I donate?

A: There are many ways you can to donate! We greatly appreciate your monetary donations, in addition to volunteering your time and donating in-kind items. Please see the Support Us page for more information.

Q: What can I donate?

A: You can help by donating many different types of items, such as clothing, holiday presents, furniture and appliances. We are in greatest need of diapers and books at this time. We greatly appreciate drop-off donations to our Headquarters building (1030 W. Van Buren), and have the ability to pick up certain types of donations. Please see the Donate Items page for more information.

Q: I made a donation. How do I obtain proof for tax purposes?

A: Your cancelled check can be used as proof of your donation. In addition, your thank you letter (which will be sent postal mail) serves as a receipt of your donation. The final line of text on the letter contains tax information. If you no longer have your thank you letter, we can send you a copy. Please email info@hullhouse.org or call 312-906-8600.

Q: How can I be removed from your mailing list?

A: If you would like to be removed from our database, you have several options for doing so. First, you can return any mail we sent to you with “do not mail” instructions. Alternatively, you can request that you be removed from the database. Please email info@hullhouse.org or call 312-906-8600.
